You may have noticed I’ve been a bit quiet on social media and the blog over the last few weeks. I’ve been super busy with lots of things to do with my role here as the spouse of a diplomat.
It’s a difficult thing to balance and the one thing that keeps my little inner critic voice from telling me that I’m failing at that balance is the amount of conscious effort I have put into really understanding that balance shifts and sways.
I’ve put a lot of work into understanding that meeting my client’s needs is enough and things like social media, newsletters, marketing can all be scaled up and down as required. A few weeks of those things being minimal is ok. In the same way, a few weeks of minimal meal planning, cooking from scratch and tidying the house is ok.
So my top tip for balancing all your responsibilities is to fully understand how little you can do of one thing and it be ok, for a specific period of time. Understand what can wait, what can be outsourced and what can be ignored. You absolutely will have times where you cannot continue to do everything to the same standard. Putting conscious thought into what that looks like means you can help reduce, minimise or even completely avoid that little voice berating you for not doing everything perfectly.
What things can you reduce when you’re really busy and need to temporarily re-balance your load?
